What Chartlapse supports today

A Chartlapse is a time-based infographic made from your table. It can be still or animated, and you can preview, tune, export, share, or save its validated Project Document as JSON.

Registered renderers: hierarchical-area · treemap · bar-race · bubble map (spatial bubbles, not geo choropleth) · geo-choropleth (Natural Earth country boundaries; ISO-3/M49 join). Still: PNG / JPEG / WEBP / SVG at 16:9 / 9:16. Animation: WebM · MP4 (when H.264 WebCodecs or MediaRecorder is available) · GIF (dense 6fps, max 120 frames).

• Input: .xlsx, CSV/TSV, or paste from Sheets (local browser parse, up to 10MB / 50,000 rows / 256 columns)
• Outputs: a still or moving Chartlapse from the same validated Project Document

• Excel starter kit: blank template, completed examples, and copyable instructions for your own AI
• Built-in country flags; direct HTTPS icon URLs in logo_url or IMG_URL, with local image upload available in Make
• Verified examples and a step-by-step guide

Not supported yet

These are intentional non-goals for the current public beta. Lists below are checked against the live Registry so shipping features are not listed as missing.

• Billing, team workspaces, or shared editing
• Embedded AI research, remote planning and AI repair are paused for this beta
• Server-side Excel upload or AI access to workbook rows / file names
• Unrestricted numeric extraction from arbitrary pages, pages without explicit rights and robots approval, or tables with skipped, mixed-unit, or scaled values
• Guaranteed MP4 on every browser (falls back to WebM or GIF)

Excel help

Prefer long format: one row per item and time, with columns such as ID, label, group, Year, and a numeric size measure.

Wide format (years as columns) is accepted when the adapter can detect it. Negative sizes, duplicate points, and missing grid cells are reported as validation issues.

Share / composition series should sum to 1 (or 100%) per time; otherwise you get a share-sum warning.

Enter/exit over time uses an explicit 0 for “out of set” on the dense v1 grid — do not leave cells blank if you mean zero.

Optional logo/image URL columns can enrich media badges when the renderer supports them.

Sign-in and cloud projects

Creator works without an account. Sign in only when you want cloud saving and an account project library.

Depending on rollout status, Chartlapse shows the secure ChatGPT fallback or direct Google and six-digit email-code methods. If a direct method fails, keep creating locally and report the method and time through Support.

When signed in with email, Account can add Google to the same Chartlapse account.

• No Chartlapse password is created or stored
• Cloud saving uploads only the validated Project Document after your first explicit Save to cloud
• Signing out does not delete cloud projects; Account provides per-project and delete-all controls

If something fails

Read the Creator issues list first — codes like invalid-size, duplicate-point, and missing-point are fixable in the sheet.

Use the Excel starter kit on Start: download the blank template, fill it yourself or with your own AI, and upload it. Embedded AI research and repair are paused for this beta.

Preview errors stay isolated from import: fix the Project Document or renderer choice without re-uploading unless the data changed.

Export failures do not rewrite your Project Document. Retry still or animation export after the preview finishes drawing.

Full player empty? Re-open Full player from Creator after a successful compile (sessionStorage handoff).

Data, AI, and third parties

Excel bytes are parsed in your browser. This beta does not send your topic, instructions or table to an embedded AI. You choose whether to share the template with your own AI service.

Leave logo_url blank for built-in country flags, or enter a direct HTTPS image URL for your own icon. Image hosts receive browser requests for those URLs. If the host blocks image access during export, upload the image in Make → Chart → Item images.
